Wisconsin Biohealth Recognized as a Tech Hub by U.S. Department of Commerce
The Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub has been designated as a Tech Hub by the Biden-Harris Administration through the Economic Development Administration (EDA), marking a significant milestone for the region’s personalized medicine sector. This recognition, announced in October 2023, underscores the area’s growing influence in global biohealth innovation.
During a visit to the Wisconsin Biohealth, Cristina Killingsworth, Acting Assistant Secretary for Economic Development at the EDA, and other Tech Hubs Program leaders collaborated with the local Tech Hub to refine strategies aimed at advancing personalized medicine. Key initiatives include accelerating biohealth product lifecycle development, enhancing mobile cancer screening units in underserved regions, improving clinical technology integration, and fostering diverse talent pools.
The Tech Hubs Program, a cornerstone initiative for bolstering U.S. technological leadership and national security, views the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub as a vital component in elevating the United States’ position in global personalized medicine over the next decade. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance U.S. competitiveness on the world stage.
Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo emphasized the transformative potential of the Tech Hubs Program, stating, “Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub embodies the spirit and potential of the Tech Hubs Program to take centers of excellence and make them world-class tech ecosystems through targeted investments.” She further highlighted the importance of ongoing support and future funding rounds to maintain and grow vital tech industries within the U.S.
Authorized by the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act, the Tech Hubs Program is backed with a $10 billion investment to boost the development, delivery, and deployment of innovative technologies across the nation, fostering new businesses and creating quality jobs.
