Free Entry to Arizona State Parks on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Arizona is offering its residents a chance to explore the state’s natural beauty and historical sites at no cost on January 20. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, more than 30 state parks and natural areas will waive entrance fees for Arizona residents.

To benefit from the free entry, visitors are required to present an Arizona ID at the park entrances.

Bob Broscheid, Executive Director of Arizona State Parks and Trails, emphasized the importance of this initiative by stating, “While entry fees are a critical part of operating Arizona’s state parks to staff them, and keep them clean, preserved, safe, and beautiful, it’s also so important that we welcome all Arizonans to explore the nature and history right in our own state.”

It’s important to note that while entry fees are being waived, charges for camping, concessions, and tours such as Kartchner Caverns and Riordan Mansion will still apply. The same goes for partner parks like Yuma Territorial Prison and McFarland State Historic Park.

Arizona State Parks and Trails, which does not rely on taxpayer money, funds its operations through collected fees. This includes paying park rangers, maintaining and repairing facilities, and managing over 64,000 acres of land, including historical and prehistoric sites.

With Arizona’s favorable winter weather, residents have a unique opportunity to engage in outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, fishing, and kayaking. Additionally, the parks offer various historical activities perfect for a family outing. A full list of parks and their available amenities can be found at AZStateParks.com/Find-A-Park.
