Celebrate Lake Havasu State Park’s 60th Anniversary with Free Events

Lake Havasu State Park Celebrates 60 Years with Free Festivities

PHOENIX – In a milestone event, Lake Havasu State Park is marking its 60th anniversary in 2025. To commemorate this occasion, the park is hosting an open celebration on February 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring music, guided hikes, and park tours, all of which are complimentary to attendees.

Established in 1965, Lake Havasu State Park quickly rose to prominence, attracting around 500,000 visitors each year. Its creation came just shortly after Lake Havasu City itself was founded, and the park has since become the most frequented state park in Arizona.

Federal and state partnerships initially facilitated the development of the park, setting up essential amenities like campsites, picnic areas, and boat ramps. The park gained international attention in 1971 when the historic London Bridge was relocated to Lake Havasu City, boosting tourism and the park’s appeal.

Subsequent enhancements funded through the State Lake Improvement Fund and Land and Water Conservation Fund have further developed the park into a top-tier outdoor recreation area. These improvements have included expansions of boating, camping, and marina facilities.

Bob Broscheid, Executive Director of Arizona State Parks and Trails, remarked, “Lake Havasu State Park is a testament to how outdoor recreation and conservation can go hand in hand, preserving this stretch along the Colorado River and connecting people with Arizona’s natural beauty.”

Operating without general fund (taxpayer) dollars, the park relies on entry and camping fees, retail sales, and annual pass purchases. Visitors enjoy a variety of amenities, such as boat ramps, shaded swimming beaches, campgrounds, cabins, and a boat rental service. The park is also a hub for events, hosting fishing tournaments, concerts, and boat shows.

For those interested in environmental education, the park features the Arroyo-Camino Interpretive Garden, which highlights the local flora and fauna. Additionally, the park collaborates with the Kids on the Colorado River program, a nonprofit initiative aimed at teaching middle school students about natural resource stewardship and safe recreation.

Be sure to join the festivities at Lake Havasu State Park on February 23 to celebrate six decades of community engagement and outdoor adventure. For more information on the event and park facilities, visit AZStateParks.com/Lake-Havasu.
