Arizona EMS Agencies Honored for Pediatric Emergency Care Excellence

Arizona’s EMS Agencies Set New Standards in Pediatric Emergency Care

In a significant stride towards enhancing pediatric emergency care, six emergency medical services (EMS) agencies across Arizona have been honored for their exemplary practices. The recognition comes as part of the Making Arizona Ready for Kids (MARK) Program, the state’s pioneering initiative dedicated to prehospital pediatric readiness. This program aims to ensure that EMS agencies are well-equipped with the essential training, protocols, and equipment to cater to the distinct needs of pediatric patients.

The Arizona EMS for Children (EMSC) Program spearheads the MARK initiative, applauding agencies that show outstanding clinical skills, ongoing training, specialized pediatric tools, and community involvement. The program assesses agencies based on key areas such as:

  • Pediatric-centered clinical training
  • Use and availability of pediatric-specific equipment
  • Integration of pediatric protocols in line with best practices
  • Community education and injury prevention initiatives

To earn this recognition, agencies undergo a rigorous self-assessment and validation process. Those that display exceptional preparedness qualify for the Prepared Advanced Care recognition tier. The agencies celebrated for their achievements in 2025 include:

  • Arizona Fire and Medical Authority in Sun City West
  • Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority in Prescott Valley
  • Gila River Emergency Medical Services in Sacaton
  • Life Line Ambulance Services in Prescott
  • Maricopa Fire and Medical Department in Maricopa
  • Puerco Valley Fire District in Sanders

These agencies have incorporated advanced pediatric training, such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), neonatal resuscitation, and have integrated systems like the Handtevy system into their operational plans. Furthermore, they have bolstered their community outreach efforts with injury prevention programs, child passenger safety seat events, and educational initiatives in schools covering critical topics such as bleeding control, drownings, and CPR.

As Arizona continues to lead the charge in prehospital pediatric recognition, these agencies are at the forefront, setting a benchmark for others to follow.
