Explore Soccer Physics: Become a Soccer Scientist at Durham Library

Explore the Science Behind Soccer with The Franklin Institute and Bentley

In a unique collaboration between The Franklin Institute and Bentley, with support from the Free Library of Philadelphia, an exciting opportunity has emerged for those curious about the scientific principles behind soccer. This engaging program invites participants to become ‘soccer scientists’ and delve into the physics that govern the sport.

Through specially designed activities by The Franklin Institute, attendees will have the chance to explore how forces and motion influence different elements of soccer. By experimenting with the direction and magnitude of forces, learners can observe the resulting effects on a soccer ball’s movement. The activities use straightforward tools that simulate kicking, offering insights into the dynamics of speed, distance, control, and precision, akin to the experiences of professional soccer players on the field.
