Arizona Innovation Challenge Now Accepting Applications for 2022

Entrepreneurs in Arizona have a golden opportunity to bring their innovative ideas to life with the opening of applications for the 11th annual Arizona Innovation Challenge (AIC). This prestigious competition, known as the largest state-sponsored business plan contest in the United States, is inviting applications from August 1 to August 31, 2022. The AIC is designed to enhance the commercialization of technology and innovation, providing early-stage companies with the tools they need to grow and succeed.

Since its inception in 2011, the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) has awarded 120 companies from over 2,000 applications. These awardees represent diverse sectors, including clean and renewable energy, IT and software, bio and life sciences, and advanced manufacturing. Notable past winners include Botco.ai, Neolight, Paradox, and CampusLogic, among others.

Successful companies will be integrated into the ACA’s Venture Ready Accelerator program. This initiative connects start-ups with experienced entrepreneurs, top executives, and industry experts. Over a nine-month period, awardees will engage in panels and workshops designed to help refine their business strategies, enhance market execution, and prepare for investor interactions.

We are excited to host this year’s competition and the Venture Ready Accelerator to support Arizona’s next generation of tech entrepreneurs. Each year, AIC awardees continue to set new standards for innovation excellence and we look forward to reviewing this year’s exciting entries.

The AIC involves a three-stage judging process, offering applicants constructive feedback through an extensive online evaluation system. Up to 25 semifinalists will be selected, followed by 15 finalists who will present their ideas in person to a panel of investors. Ultimately, up to 10 companies will be named as the 2022 AIC awardees. Post-competition, participants can consult with the ACA to discuss their applications and explore additional resources for business improvement.

Applications are being accepted from August 1 to August 31, with a strict deadline of 5 p.m. MST on the final day. Interested applicants can submit their proposals HERE.
