JX USA Breaks Ground on Mesa Plant, Creating 100+ Jobs by 2025

New Manufacturing Facility in Mesa to Bolster Job Market and Semiconductor Industry

The City of Mesa, Arizona, is set to become a significant player in the semiconductor sector with the introduction of a new high-tech manufacturing plant by JX Nippon Mining & Metals USA, Inc. (JX USA). This development is expected to generate over 100 jobs by 2025, marking a substantial economic boost for the area.

MESA, AZ (October 5, 2022) — In a collaborative effort with the City of Mesa and the Arizona Commerce Authority, JX USA broke ground on its state-of-the-art electronic materials manufacturing facility. Spanning 273,000 square feet on a 63-acre site at Germann Road and Crismon Road, the plant will be operational in early 2024 and will more than double the output of their existing Chandler facility.

JX USA, a leader in electronic materials manufacturing, plans to produce sputtering targets crucial for semiconductors at this new facility. “JX Nippon Mining & Metals USA, Inc. is a cutting-edge electronic materials manufacturer,” said Masago Kuwabara, President & CEO of JX Nippon Mining & Metals USA, Inc. “We are proud to be moving forward on our commitment to manufacture electronic materials in the City of Mesa.”

The facility will feature extensive production areas, office spaces, welfare facilities, and a garden. JX USA aims to make this Mesa location a hub for new business development and a central part of its advanced materials operations in the U.S.

Highlighting Arizona’s growing appeal for the semiconductor industry, Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, stated, “Today’s groundbreaking showcases Arizona’s premier attractiveness for the semiconductor industry.” She noted JX USA’s longstanding presence in the state as a key factor in their continued investment.

Mesa Mayor John Giles expressed enthusiasm for the project, saying, “We’re excited by JX Nippon’s plans to make Mesa the new base of operations for its sputtering target business in the U.S.” This sentiment was echoed by District 6 Councilmember Kevin Thompson, who remarked on the economic benefits of JX USA’s investment and job creation for the region.

JX USA’s choice of Arizona was influenced by its favorable business climate, available infrastructure, talent pool, strategic geographic location, and an established supply chain for the semiconductor industry. The City of Mesa is poised for further growth as a center for advanced industry, with ample room for expansion to accommodate JX USA’s future needs.

The company supports both North America and Europe with materials used in semiconductor, flat panel, magnetic, and optical thin film applications. To learn more about JX USA, please visit nmm-jx-group.com.
