State Health Plan Cancels Third Party Administrator Bid, Seeks New Proposals
Raleigh, N.C.
The State Health Plan recently announced the cancellation of its Request for Proposal (RFP) for Third Party Administrator (TPA) services. The decision was made because none of the submitted bids fulfilled the RFP’s minimum criteria. This RFP was initially issued on March 20, 2026.
A new RFP is expected to be issued in the coming weeks as the Plan remains in its silent period, preparing to release another proposal request. The aim is for the Plan’s Board of Trustees to approve the contract award later this summer.
Currently, Aetna serves as the Plan’s TPA, with their contract concluding on December 31, 2027. The new RFP is intended for TPA services starting on January 1, 2028.
“The Plan is committed to the RFP process, which will ultimately deliver the best value of services for our members. This process is essential to securing a partner who can help us provide strong and sustainable benefits and an improved experience for those we serve,” stated Tom Friedman, the Plan’s Executive Administrator.
