Discussion on Dog Policies in Township Parks
The Parks & Recreation Board is set to deliberate on several significant agenda items concerning the presence and regulation of dogs in township parks. These discussions aim to address existing policies and consider potential changes that could affect park-goers and their pets.
One of the primary topics on the agenda is the possible change in policy at Dittmar Park to allow dogs on the walking path. This evaluation will determine if such a change would be beneficial and feasible for the community.
Additionally, there will be a comprehensive review of dog permissions and leash requirements across the entire park system. This includes an assessment of current rules to ensure they align with community needs and safety standards. It is important to note that these discussions do not encompass the Willows/Skunk Hollow Parks & Trails. According to Ordinance 2024-01, reviewed in March 2025 and adopted on February 26, 2024, dogs must be leashed on Saturdays, Sundays, and all Township holidays from 12:00 PM to dusk. Furthermore, dogs are prohibited in Willows Park, and must be leashed in the parking lot before entering Skunk Hollow Park & Trails.
Community members are encouraged to participate in upcoming Parks & Recreation Department meetings to voice their opinions and stay informed about changes affecting dogs across township parks.
