Wisconsin DHS Upholds Immunization Guidance Amid Federal Changes

Wisconsin Health Department Maintains Stance on Immunization Guidance Amid Federal Changes

In light of recent federal actions concerning vaccine recommendations, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has emphasized its commitment to basing guidance on thorough and transparent scientific evaluations. The DHS continues to uphold its established immunization guidelines, prioritizing evidence-based decisions for public health measures.

“Consistent with our approach to prior federal actions affecting vaccine recommendations, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) relies on systematic and transparent reviews of scientific evidence to inform any updates to immunization guidance we give to parents, health care providers, and public health agencies statewide,” the department stated in a recent release.

Despite an executive order issued on August 10, 2026, which has introduced new federal perspectives on vaccination policies, the DHS maintains that its current protocols remain unchanged. For detailed guidelines, the department refers to its endorsement of childhood and adolescent immunization schedules published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Concerns have been raised by the DHS regarding the absence of scientific backing in recent statements by federal officials. The department stresses the importance of providing health professionals and parents with reliable and accurate information, noting, “We are deeply concerned about the lack of scientific evidence in statements from top federal officials, and potential implications for the health of children in our state.”

While addressing these developments, the DHS assures the public that its guidance continues to be informed by rigorous evaluations of benefits and risks, aimed at ensuring families can access preventive healthcare and maintain trust in public health recommendations.
