Detroit Residents Invited to Participate in City’s Budget Planning
The City of Detroit is rolling out a series of virtual meetings to involve residents in shaping the city’s fiscal future. These sessions are designed to educate the public about the budget process and solicit feedback on financial priorities.
Key city departments will kick off with the Annual Public Budget Meetings, where they will outline their core functions and current budget usage. These meetings are slated for September 23 and September 30 at 5 p.m.
Following these initial sessions, starting October 15, the Office of Budget will conduct Budget Priorities Forums across all seven City Council districts. The goal is to gather resident input on the Mayor’s proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget. Budget staff will offer an overview of the plan, discuss priority-setting challenges, and invite public comments. This initiative underscores a commitment to public involvement in budget development.
“This is a great opportunity for residents to take part in the budget-making process by sharing their priorities with us while also learning about how the City’s budget is formed over several months,” said Donnie Johnson, Deputy Budget Director. “We hope every resident will be able to attend one of several virtual meetings planned in the coming weeks, one in each City Council District.”
