Wisconsin DHS Alerts Medicaid Members of Potential Privacy Breach
June 30, 2026
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has reported a data breach impacting Medicaid members linked to the state’s Supplemental Security Income program. The breach involved the dissemination of letters containing private information to outdated addresses, potentially exposing sensitive data.
On April 30, 2026, DHS identified the issue, leading to immediate action to pinpoint affected individuals and stop further mailing to incorrect addresses. By June 30, 2026, the department had reached out to 8,157 members at risk of unauthorized access to their personal information. To mitigate the impact, DHS is offering these individuals one year of free credit monitoring services and has established a dedicated call center to assist with inquiries.
Members who have received notification letters or have questions regarding this incident are advised to contact the call center at 800-362-3002. The center operates from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. CT.
