Railroad Improvements to Temporarily Close Part of Allen Road in Greenville
In preparation for future expansion, a section of Allen Road in Greenville is set to undergo temporary closure due to necessary railroad upgrades. This step marks a crucial phase in the larger plan to widen the road, enhancing its capacity and safety for drivers.
Subject to weather conditions, Allen Road near the intersection with Landfill Road will be inaccessible to traffic from July 11 to July 15. During this period, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will be installing railroad tubs at the track’s approaches. This upgrade aims to ensure a smoother driving experience for commuters once the road reopens.
As a result of the closure, alternative routes will be available for drivers. Recommended detours include taking Stantonsburg Road, U.S. 264, and U.S. 264 Alternate or opting for Stantonsburg Road, West Arlington Boulevard, and Dickinson Avenue. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, anticipating longer travel times, and to exercise caution when navigating near the construction zone.
This railroad improvement work is a necessary precursor to the planned expansion of Allen Road, which is slated to commence next year. For further details on the upcoming project, please visit the project page.
